My name is Deepak Simkhada I am a Dental Hygiene Therapist, originally from Nepal. I came to the UK in 2001 and studied Dental Hygiene Therapy at the University of Dundee, where I qualified from in 2007 and I have remained in the UK ever since. I currently work in General Dental Practice in Crawley 3 days a week. Alongside being a clinician I am studying for a Masters in Periodontology at University of Essex. I run various CPD courses in my spare time, mainly targeted at Dental Care Professionals wishing to update and advance their knowledge and skills within periodontology and implant care.

I have always dreamed of going back to Nepal and helping Nepalese community in some shape or form. My desire has grown much stronger to return since the 2015 earthquake, which left many villages and communities in desperate need of help. The country is going through massive re-development and it will take many years to get Nepal back on its feet. To aid that re-development I want to take a group of Dental Professionals to my local villages in which we will provide help to the community directly by offering dental care services and oral health promotion. Dental care will consist of simple treatments to those who do not have access to any dental health facilities. Many of the population are in discomfort and suffering unnecessarily. Our aim is to offer pain relief and carry out simple fillings along with providing Oral Health Education to growing young kids, which will help prevent them from dental caries, periodontal disease in years to come. Prevention is better than cure. If we can instil simple effective oral health messages within the community and young population, this will have a profound effect in their general health and well being in years to come. Last but by no means least, Nepal is renowned for its beautiful mountains and stunning scenery, I wish to show you around my country and introduce you to all its splendour. The trekking and sightseeing tours will also generate an income for the local people, giving back to the struggling economy.

I welcome all application forms from members of the dental team.  Your input and hard work will be greatly appreciated. Ideally the team would consist of:

  • Specialist
  • General Dental Practitioner
  • Dental Therapist
  • Dental Hygienist
  • Dental Nurse
  • Reception team manager who can help in smooth running of dental camp
  • Non-dental professionals to help running dental camp
